Abstract

According to the procedure of morphodynamic terrain analysis based on digital elevation model (DEM), tested within the exclusion zone of Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the area of radioactive contamination of Fukushima-1 was researched. It was determined that the terrain elevation is a main driver of radioactive “trace” formation within highlands. The possibility to determine the areas potentially prone to self>cleaning and surface contamination under denudation by DEM was demonstrated in reference sites. Also the opportunity to predict changes in the boundaries of radiation “trace” area was prospected.
